Frederick Charles Judd was born in 1914 in Woodford, east London, and like so many youngsters of his generation developed an early and abiding passion for radio. With the outbreak of WW2 he served in the RAF Coastal Command working with highly secret radar equipment, just as electronic music pioneer Tristram Cary was engaged in similar work in the Royal Navy. Both men were later in contact, and used their skilled engineering backgrounds to develop their musical interests through electronics. Fred had no formal musical training though he was competent on guitar and organ, and it appears that the combination of music, radio, tape recording and circuitry inevitably drew him to experimenting with electronic music during the mid-1950s. pink dolphins!

well no art or design here, or maybe there is…… here’s a pink dolphin! I’ve never seen it, but it could be i’m slow… .eitherway pictures of dolphins are always good to share!

This is a pink dolphin that was found in louisiana, it seems to be that it’s an albino turned pink! As far as known this is the only pink albino! (read about it here)

These are found in the amazon! when they are young they are pink and turn more grey when they grow older. more info in wikipedia

Wouter Huis’ work is most of the time about our surroundings and how he can change the perspective of that by setting everyday happenings in a different light.

I am in love with his Performance #1 work:

A more recent project, Performance #1 (2011), consisted of a vacant garage box that for the duration of the event- was turned into a cinema. The audience was invited to take a seat, facing the electric door which was at some point opened to reveal a view into a particularly uninteresting street. This street, and the very little amount of action in it (an occasional car or person passing by) was thereby transferred into both a screen and a new space. Likewise the people inside became participants in a strange and quiet performance.(information taken from artist his website)

You can enjoy this recent work at IFFR this year as well at the former Lantaren/Venster in Rotterdam.So go go go and have a look yourself!

Yeah! The work of Dan Grayber looks like construction site, so it could not go wrong for me.
The work itself is according to the artist a problem and its solution in itself.
He builds – mostly small – sculptures (but I just love the bigger ones!) that only sustain their own existence.(more about the artist statement here )

Parallel Walls Mechanism
Piece is composed of seven steel frames that telescope outwards. Two large, centrally located springs activate mechanism that pushes first set of frames, pulley system causes 2nd and 3rd set to telescope outwards based on the position of the first set. Piece exerts enough outward force upon two parallel walls (roughly 15’ apart) to hold itself up.

Interfloor Mechanism #1
Piece is a spring loaded mechanism that wedges itself between the floor and ceiling, holding itself up.

Bottle Mechanism #3
Piece consists of two parts joined together with bicycle brake cable: the mechanical base, and the mechanism that fits inside of the bottle. The weight of the bottle, and the piece inside the bottle, maintains enough tension in the system as a whole to keep the mechanism inside the bottle expanded, bracing itself in the center of the bottle. This tension also keeps the bottle from dropping any further.

Corner Mechanism #4
Piece is a counterweight driven mechanism that wedges itself into the interior of a corner, suspending itself.

When I discovered the work of Ariko Inaoka from Japan, and her portraits reminded my of the Dutch photographer Hellen van Meene.

Sweetness is a myth

A few weeks ago I found out about this nice photo series from photographers Benjamin Li (1985) and Laerke Elllegaard(1984).
This series got me thinking about faded glory, the perishingly aspect of strength… but honestly I just love it because of that fine line between beauty and disgust and the beautiful colour scheme!

As with most photos the work should speak for itself, I believe these pictures barely need guidance by words. Still, here some background info about the series from the photographers: “The work is all about playfulness and crating identities. It is both vulnerable and vulgar at the same time. There are references to everything form regal portrait, sex and gorging. Lærke and Benjamin are interested in combining beauty and disgust. The portraits resemble a white canvas where the food is the paint. The food is very recognizable but taken into another context given a new meaning.”
